Meet Wrigley, AKA Riggs.   He is the sweetest gu and would make a great Companion for the right person.   If you recall he came to CNR when he was surrendered by a breeder.  He was used as a stud by the breeder.(he has been neutered) He was not a “Family dog” or a “house dog”.
He had one job to do.   He was not potty trained, or properly socialized with people.   His foster mom believes he’s never bonded with a human.   He has bonded very well with her.
He is very shy, but very kind.   He trust people VERY slowly, some never gain his trust.
Above all else he needs a quiet, peaceful home environment with little stranger traffic.
Ideally someone who works from home as his stress magnifies when he has to be crated(he’s not a fan).  He does sleep well
in the crate at night.   We have been working with his vet on medication for his anxiety… he has a handful of things that we are trying and they seem to help.   We have been working with a private, professional trainer and it is going well.
His potty training is going very well.  He hasn’t had an accident in some time.    He doesn’t “ask” to go out  but when he is let out and told to “go potty “ he will go and do his business.
A fenced yard is best so he can explore at his leisure.   He is nonreactive to neighborhood dogs or people out and about.    He is not a fan of the car and drools excessively or pukes medication may help this. He walks perfectly on the leash and is a joy to take on walks.   He had another dog friend in the home for a short while while his foster mom was babysitting and did not find him!
So again the perfect home consists of the following:

••Quiet, peaceful environment.
••retired person or work from home situation
••fenced yard
••extreme patience and understanding of his shyness and anxiety.
••willingness to work with a professional trainer.
••experience with cocker spaniels in general and cocker spaniels with anxiety is a big plus.
•• meet and greet with potential forever home and current dogs a must.  He is
not cat tested.  Or small children tested.
(Several meet and greets may be necessary.)
