Django's (formerly Coco) Story

django shelter 1DJANGO bad earsdjango ear 1

We see a lot of sad cases in rescue, but this particular story of neglect is disturbing.  His name was Coco(now Django), and as you can see from the pictures above his owners had no interest in him.  He was filthy, matted, sick, and had maggots from infection in his ears.  This poor boy was so full of infection, I am not sure how he withstood the pain.   It took months if not years of ignored ear infections to get to the point that maggots would be in his ears  His fur on his body and ears was so matted, and no air was entering his ears.  So the infection sat there and was unable to escape.  Thank goodness for the shelter that brought him in.  There he went to a vet and had his ears flushed out (he had to be put under for this) and they groomed him.
We were contacted by the shelter, and thanks to our fosters Kevin and April, were able to take him in.  The smell of his ears was indescribable, and he had pus seeping out of his ears. His ears were so swollen no eardrum could be seen by the vet and his canals were almost swollen closed.  He had to have his ears constantly cleaned so the infection would not seep back down the tiny opening in the canal.  He was put on a very strong antiboitic and ear drops.  His infection levels were so high that he could not be neutered, given shots, or have his growths removed until his white blood cell count lowered. His first vet visit was a total of 273.00.

Day by day, his dedicated fosters cleaned his ears and gave him some much needed tlc.  He was placed on dog food that was full of nutrients, as he has missing patches of hair from lack of good food.  He was introduced to their dogs after the isolation period, and he did very well.  Through all of this, Django wagged his tail and was truly happy to be alive.  A fter three weeks of his medication, his infection levels were low enough for him to go through surgery (neuter and growth removal).  The vet informed us, it would take several months for the infection to be totally cleared, but he had shown great improvement!  Django came through his surgery like a champ!  His second vet bill was $890.00, but each dog is worth saving!

Django's needs have surpassed our normal costs and we are in need of help.  If you can contribute any amount, it is extremely needed
and appreciated.  Your support will enable us to continue his amazing progress (see the pictures below) ! Thank you!

Django has been officially adopted! He is doing well and loving life.  Here he is with his family:)
